Kubota AD70 Diesel Tiller Specifications

The Kubota AD70 is the diesel member of Kubota's walk-behind rotary tiller line, sitting alongside the gasoline AT55, AT60 and AT70S models. It runs Kubota's E70–TB horizontal water-cooled 4-cycle diesel — radiator-cooled, with a precombustion swirl chamber, BOSCH injection pump and nozzle, and electric starting — rated at 7.0 hp SAE gross at 2500 rpm. Compared with the gasoline machines it carries three forward speeds instead of two, larger 4.00–9 tires, and a considerably higher 200 kg (440 lbs.) operating weight, while sharing the same center-drive rotary unit: 500 mm (20 in.) standard tilling width, 360 mm (14.1 in.) rotor, and 12 blades. All figures below are transcribed directly from the factory manual.

Tine Speeds & Direction

Direction Auxiliary chain case speed Tine speed
Forward Low 207 rpm
Forward High 350 rpm
Reverse Low 207 rpm
Reverse High 350 rpm

Travelling Speeds (at 2500 Engine RPM)

Vehicle speed Axle rotating speed Travelling speed
1st forward 12.0 rpm 1.10 km/h (0.63 mi/h)§
2nd forward 16.8 rpm 1.41 km/h (0.88 mi/h)
3rd forward 63.6 rpm 5.33 km/h (3.33 mi/h)
Reverse 13.0 rpm 1.10 km/h (0.69 mi/h)

In the source table these Low/High figures sit under a heading reading "Auxiliary chain case / Speed." The heading is reproduced here as printed; the manual's operating section should be consulted for how the Low and High positions are selected.
The manual prints identical tine speeds for forward and reverse rotation (207 rpm low, 350 rpm high). This is transcribed as printed and is not a duplication error; note that it differs from the AT60/AT70S table, where reverse tine speeds are printed slightly lower than forward.
§ The manual prints 1.10 km/h for 1st forward, but the paired 0.63 mi/h figure converts to approximately 1.01 km/h, and 1.01 km/h is what the 12.0 rpm axle speed produces at the ratio implied by the other three rows (2nd forward, 3rd forward and reverse are all internally consistent). The printed value appears to be a transposition of 1.01. Both figures are shown as printed here rather than corrected.
