Kubota T1400 & T1400H Riding Mower Operator's Manual
This operator's manual is the factory operation and maintenance reference for the Kubota T1400 and T1400H riding mowers, running roughly 40 pages of safe-operation guidance, control identification, servicing, adjustments, and troubleshooting. It's the book that came with the machine: instrument panel and control layout, pre-start checks and engine starting, cutting-height and mower operation, and a full maintenance schedule. Originally published by Kubota and delivered here as an instant PDF download you can read on any device or print for the cab.
Models covered: T1400 (gear type) · T1400H (HST / hydrostatic type) Includes 2 manual versions to ensure you have the most up-to-date information
About the T1400 & T1400H
The T1400 and T1400H are Kubota riding mowers built around the GH400V-L engine — an OHV air-cooled single-cylinder gasoline unit of 389 cc (23.7 cu. in.) rated at 13.5 HP, with a bore and stroke of 84.2 mm × 70 mm (3.31 × 2.76 in), forced trochoidal-pump lubrication, and electric start off a 12V 30Ah battery. The two models share the same engine and 1016 mm (40 in) twin-blade, right-discharge mower deck but differ in drivetrain: the T1400 uses a gear shift with variable-speed drive, while the T1400H runs a hydrostatic transmission with a speed control pedal.
Both machines mow through a belt-driven PTO turning at 3300 rpm, adjust cutting height from 24 to 102 mm (1.0 to 4.0 in) via gauge wheel, and ride on 14×5.00–6 front and 18×8.50–8 rear tires. These are still-working residential and property mowers, and because operation, servicing, and adjustment differ between the gear and HST versions, having the correct factory reference on hand keeps maintenance and setup accurate for whichever model you own.
What This Manual Covers
- Safe operation: Extensive safety section covering before-operating checks, starting, working, pulling loads, hitch use, slope operation, children, stopping, transporting, servicing, battery handling, and storage — plus the machine's safety-label codes and their locations.
- Servicing of riding mower: Dealer-service guidance and where to locate and record the vehicle, engine, and mower serial numbers.
- Specifications: Full specs for the GH400V-L engine and both vehicles, including capacities, traveling speeds, tires, dimensions, weights, and mower data.
- Instrument panel and controls: Key switch, throttle lever, HST speed control and brake pedals, gear shift and clutch-brake pedal, parking brake knobs, lift lever, PTO lever, light switch, and optional hour meter.
- Operating instructions: Pre-start checks, operating the engine, operating the vehicle for both HST and gear types, adjusting cutting height, operating the mower, checks while driving, and attaching the discharge deflector and mower.
- Maintenance: Daily check, lubricants, and the maintenance schedule.
- Check and maintenance: Fuel, engine oil, transmission fluid, hydrostatic transmission fluid, lubrication points before starting, air intake screens, spark plug gap, engine shrouds and cooling fins, tire pressure, air cleaner, battery, fuse, and operator presence control.
- Adjustments: Clutch-brake (gear type), brake (HST type), PTO belt tension, mower belt tension, mower belt support, blade replacement, and bolt torque.
- Troubleshooting: Battery, vehicle (HST), engine, and mower troubleshooting tables.
- Long-term storage, lubricant specifications, and wiring diagram.
Why This Manual Matters
- Covers both drivetrains in one book. Gear-type T1400 and hydrostatic T1400H are documented together, with model-specific control, operation, and adjustment procedures so you follow the right steps for your machine.
- The service data routine care depends on. Capacities, spark plug gap, tire pressures, belt tensions, bolt torque, and the maintenance schedule are all here, so you can set and service to spec rather than guess.
- Engine-specific reference. Full GH400V-L specifications — displacement, horsepower, bore and stroke, spark plug part numbers (NGK BPR4HS-10 / DENSO W14FPR-UL10), and oil capacity — the numbers a generic guide won't carry.
- Troubleshooting built in. Dedicated battery, vehicle, engine, and mower troubleshooting sections help trace a fault before you start swapping parts.
- Wiring diagram included. The manual closes with a wiring diagram for tracing electrical and safety-start circuits.
- Scarce factory literature, restored. Original operator's manuals for these mowers are increasingly hard to find — this searchable, restored PDF puts it back in your hands.
