About the Ford 1000
The Ford 1000 was the first of Ford's Shibaura-built compact tractors and the only one in the family to use a two-cylinder engine: a 77.7 cu. in. (1272 cc) diesel with a 21:1 compression ratio, rated at 2500 rpm and producing 23.0 observed PTO horsepower. It came with manual steering, drum brakes, and a nine-speed transmission arranged as three ranges of three, giving ground speeds from 0.4 to 8.7 mph. At 2260 lbs. bare with a 62.6 inch wheelbase, it was a substantial little tractor built for small-acreage work, loader duty, and three-point implements up to Category I.
Documentation for these early Shibaura-built Fords is genuinely scarce, and the 1000 predates the better-documented 10-series and 20-series compacts that followed. This is the manual Ford issued to owners, not an aftermarket substitute.
