Ford 1900 Tractor Operator's Manual

This is the Operator's Manual for the Ford 1900 compact utility tractor, covering controls, operation, four-wheel drive engagement, lubrication, and the complete maintenance schedule across 50 pages. Published by Ford and issued to 1900 owners at delivery, this manual is available as an instant digital download.

About the Ford 1900

The Ford 1900 was produced from approximately 1983 to 1988 as part of Ford's compact tractor lineup, built by Shibaura in Japan under Ford's established compact tractor sourcing arrangement. It was powered by a 3-cylinder Shibaura diesel engine producing approximately 32 PTO horsepower — a step up from the 1700 and 1600 in the same compact series. The 1900 was available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive, and the 4WD variant with its front axle engagement was particularly popular for loader work on uneven ground and wet conditions. The hydraulic system featured a live PTO and Category I 3-point hitch with draft control. Following Ford's 1986 merger with New Holland, late-production 1900s were marketed under the Ford New Holland name, though mechanically the tractor remained unchanged through the end of production. The 1900's Shibaura mechanical foundation gives it excellent durability, and many remain active on small farms and properties where proper maintenance intervals — all documented in this manual — are the key to continued reliable service.

What This Manual Covers

This 50-page manual covers the Ford 1900 from initial operation through the full maintenance schedule, with separate coverage for two-wheel and four-wheel drive service procedures. Key sections include:

  • International Symbols & Safety Precautions — symbol identification and Ford's original safety guidelines for the 1900
  • Controls & Instruments — seat, lighting, and engine controls; instrument panel; throttle controls; brake controls; differential control; transmission and PTO controls; hydraulic lift system controls
  • Operation — break-in procedures; engine starting and stopping; operating the transmission, four-wheel drive, and PTO; towing; differential lock operation; hydraulic lift system use; wheel tread settings; tractor weighting; tire pressures
  • Lubrication & Maintenance — lubrication and maintenance chart; separate procedures for two-wheel and four-wheel drive; fuel and lubricant specifications; fuel and lubricant service procedures; general maintenance; tractor storage
  • Specifications — factory-specification capacities, dimensions, and settings
  • Safety Decals — original decal content and placement reference
  • Pre-Delivery & 50-Hour Service — factory inspection and break-in service checklist

Why This Manual Matters

  • 4WD front axle service coverage: The four-wheel drive variant's front axle has its own fluid specification and service interval documented separately in the maintenance section — service information that generic small-tractor resources consistently miss
  • Hydraulic lift system documentation: The 1900's Category I hydraulic system has specific fluid type and pressure settings that differ from other Ford models of the same era; using the wrong fluid or skipping filter service is among the most common causes of hydraulic problems on these tractors
  • Tire pressures and weighting: Correct front and rear tire pressures and ballasting are documented with the Ford-specified ranges, directly affecting loader stability, three-point hitch performance, and tire wear on a compact tractor of this size and weight class
  • 50-Hour break-in service: Particularly valuable when acquiring a used 1900 with unknown service history — the factory predelivery and break-in checklist specifies exactly what Ford required before the tractor entered regular service
  • Differential lock operation: Correct engagement and disengagement procedure for the rear differential lock is documented, including the speed and terrain conditions under which engagement is appropriate — misuse is a common cause of differential damage
  • Original factory content: This is the manual Ford issued to 1900 owners at delivery, carrying manual code SE 3753 1796

Manual Code: SE 3753 1796
