About the Ford 1900
The Ford 1900 was produced from approximately 1983 to 1988 as part of Ford's compact tractor lineup, built by Shibaura in Japan under Ford's established compact tractor sourcing arrangement. It runs a three-cylinder Shibaura diesel of 1429 cc, rated at 2800 rpm and producing 26.5 observed PTO horsepower, a step up from the 23.0 of the 1700 and 1600 in the same series.
The 1900 carries twelve forward gears and four reverse on 12.4 × 24 rear tires, a Live Position Control Category 1 three-point hitch, and a gear pump delivering 5.9 gpm at a 2133 psi relief setting. Bare weight is 2589 lbs. in two-wheel drive or 2822 lbs. in four-wheel drive, on a wheelbase of 63 to 64 inches, with a 30 litre fuel tank, the largest in this range of compacts.
It was available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive, and the 4WD variant was popular for loader work on uneven ground and in wet conditions. Following Ford's 1986 merger with New Holland, late-production 1900s were marketed under the Ford New Holland name, though mechanically the tractor was unchanged.
Worth knowing before you buy an implement: the 1900's PTO is transmission driven, not live. It stops when you depress the clutch. The hydraulic lift is Live Position Control, which is a separate thing and a common source of confusion.

Why This Manual Matters
- 4WD front axle service coverage: the four-wheel drive front axle has its own fluid specification and capacities, a 2.5 quart differential case and 0.23 quarts per final reduction gear case, documented separately in the maintenance section. Generic small-tractor resources consistently miss this.
- Hydraulic lift system documentation: the 1900's system shares a 25.4 quart fill with the transmission and rear axle on M2C-134-A, at a 2133 psi relief setting. Using the wrong fluid or skipping filter service is among the most common causes of hydraulic trouble on these tractors.
- Tire pressures and weighting: front and rear pressures and ballasting are documented with the Ford-specified ranges, including the cast iron weight sets, which affects loader stability, three-point performance and tire wear.
