Ford 1700 Tractor Specifications

Specs HubFord › 1700

Complete specifications for the Ford 1700 compact tractor, transcribed from the specifications section of the factory operator's manual (SE3752A). The 1700 uses the same 77.7 cu. in. two-cylinder Shibaura diesel as the Ford 1000 and 1600, producing the same 23.0 observed PTO horsepower, but in a substantially developed machine: twelve forward gears and four reverse against the earlier nine and three, optional hydraulic power steering, optional draft control, four-wheel drive available, and a gear pump delivering 7.3 gpm where the 1000 and 1600 managed 4.2.

The engine specification differs in detail too. Injection timing is 21° BTDC rather than 24°, idle speeds are lower, and valve lash is given cold here where the 1000 and 1600 manuals give it warm. If you are cross-referencing between these manuals, that last difference matters.

Notes:
1 Reproduced as printed. This manual gives the firing order as 2-1. The Ford 1000 and 1600 manuals, which specify the same 77.7 cu. in. two-cylinder engine, both print 1-2. The Ford 1200 also prints 2-1 while the 1300, with an identical engine to the 1200, prints 1-2. Ford was evidently inconsistent about which way round to write it.
2 Note the difference from the earlier manuals. This one specifies valve lash on a cold engine; the Ford 1000 and 1600 manuals specify the same 0.012 in. clearance on a warm engine. The clearance figure is identical but the condition it is measured under is not, so do not assume they are interchangeable.
3 The manual prints “asist”; spelling normalised. The same typo appears in the Ford 1200 manual.
4 Reproduced as printed. 43 lbs. ft. is about 58 N·m, not 54. The Ford 1200, 1300 and 1500 manuals all print this same torque as “43–54 lbs. ft. (58–73 N·m)”, so the lower metric figure here appears to be a printing error.
5 The manual presents ground speeds as a bar chart rather than a table. The values above are the endpoint figures printed on that chart at 1250 and 2500 rpm. They are transcribed, not measured from the graph.
6 Reproduced as printed. Every other gear on this chart has a maximum exactly twice its minimum, which would make R1 read 0.4 to 0.8. The manual prints 0.1. The figure has been left as printed rather than corrected to fit the pattern.
