Ford 3400, 3500, 4400 and 4500 Industrial Tractor Specifications
The Ford 3400, 3500, 4400 and 4500 were three-cylinder utility and industrial tractors built from 1965 to 1975 at Ford's Highland Park, Michigan plant. The 3400 and 3500 share the smaller 158 cu in (2,590 cc) gasoline / 175 cu in (2,868 cc) diesel engines, while the heavier 4400 and 4500 use the 201 cu in (3,294 cc) gasoline and diesel engines. Ford classified the 3400 and 4400 as Utility models and the 3500 and 4500 as true Industrial models — the Industrial chassis carries heavier front and rear axles and offers transmission options (such as Power Reversing) not available on the Utility versions. All four were commonly fitted with loaders and backhoes and are grouped together in the factory operator's manual covered here.
The specifications below are grouped by system for easy reference. Where a value applies only to certain models, the model is named; an em dash (—) indicates the option was not offered for that model.
Engine
The 3400/3500 use a 158 cu in gasoline or 175 cu in diesel three-cylinder engine; the 4400/4500 use the larger 201 cu in three-cylinder gasoline or diesel.

Diesel fuel note: With sulfur content below 1.0%, an API DM diesel oil may be used in place of DS, but the oil and filter change interval must be reduced to 150 hours. With sulfur content above 1.0% but below 1.3%, a DS oil must be used (except at 10°F and below) and the change interval reduced to 150 hours. Fuel with sulfur content above 1.3% is not recommended.

¹ The original factory manual prints these Power Assist Pump capacities as “28.3 Imp. gpm” and “35.0 Imp. gpm.” These appear to be typographical errors in the source (a misplaced decimal point); the correct Imperial conversions are approximately 2.8 and 3.5 Imp. gpm, which agree with the U.S. gpm and litres-per-minute figures shown. Values corrected here for accuracy. All specifications are transcribed from the original Ford 3400, 3500, 4400 & 4500 operator's manual and are provided for reference. U.S. and metric figures are reproduced as published; minor rounding differences between unit systems reflect the original printing. Always confirm against your unit's serial number and the manual before service or repair.
