Specs Hub › Ford › 9000
Complete specifications for the Ford 9000 agricultural tractor, transcribed from the specifications section of the factory operator's manual (SE 3259). The 9000 is a turbocharged six-cylinder diesel of 401 cu. in. (6571 cc) rated at 2200 rpm, with hydrostatic power steering, self-compensating hydraulic wet disc brakes, and a PTO-driven gear pump delivering 16 gpm to a Category II or III linkage. At 9,800 to 10,320 lbs. bare depending on configuration, it is the heaviest Ford covered on this site.
One characteristic worth knowing before you buy an implement: the 9000's power take-off is 1000 rpm only. The specification section lists an engine speed for 1000 rpm PTO operation and gives no 540 rpm figure at all, where the Ford 8600 manual lists both.
The 9000 shares its 401 cu. in. displacement with the 8600 but is not the same specification. It is rated 100 rpm lower, carries half again the hydraulic pump capacity, holds a third more coolant, and its manual still uses the older DM and DS oil classifications where the 8600 had moved to CC and CD.

The temperature bands overlap as printed. That is deliberate in charts of this kind rather than an error: between 32°F and 40°F, and again between 75°F and 90°F, two grades are both acceptable.2
Fuel sulfur note, as printed: with a sulfur content below 1.0%, an API DM oil may be used instead of DS, but the oil and filter change interval must be reduced to 50 hours. Between 1.0% and 1.3% sulfur a DS oil must be used (except at 10°F and below), and this too requires the oil and filter to be changed every 50 hours. Fuel with a sulfur content above 1.3% is not recommended.
