Complete specifications for the Massey Ferguson MF 1500 and MF 1800 articulated four-wheel-drive tractors, transcribed from the specifications section of the factory operator's manual (Form No. 1448 173 M5, dated 9/73). Both share an 8-cylinder, four-stroke, direct-injection 90° V diesel with a common 4.5 inch bore. The MF 1500 uses a 4.5 inch stroke for 573 cu. in. at 17:1 compression; the MF 1800 uses a longer 5.0 inch stroke for 636 cu. in. at 16.5:1.
Drawbar horsepower was independently tested at Nebraska: 153.8 hp for the MF 1500 (Test No. 1086) and 183.6 hp for the MF 1800 (Test No. 1087), both in rated gear. Drive runs through a 14 inch single-disc foot-operated clutch to a basic 3-speed transmission with a standard/overdrive range ahead of the transmission and a hi-lo range in the transfer case, giving 12 forward and 4 reverse speeds. The hydraulic system is open center with a 2-spool control valve and two 22 gpm gear pumps, one for the auxiliary hydraulic system and one for steering and transmission lubrication.
