Complete specifications for the Ford 6700 and Ford 7700 agricultural tractors, transcribed from the specifications section of the factory operator's manual (SE 3549), which covers both models in one book. Both are four-cylinder diesels of 256 cu. in. (4195 cc) rated at 2100 rpm, with hydrostatic tilt steering, mechanically actuated disc brakes, and a live hydraulic system at 2500 psi feeding a Category II linkage.

The two are closely matched on paper. Where they differ, the differences point the same way: the 7700 runs a lower compression ratio of 15.6:1 against the 6700's 16.3:1, carries a larger cooling system, gets the 51 amp alternator and Load Monitor draft sensing as standard rather than optional, and has a much shorter oil change interval under high-sulfur fuel. Ford also specifies engine oil for the 7700's fuel injection pump, and says nothing about the 6700's.

The PTO on both is independent and hydraulically actuated, a real step up from the transmission-driven PTO on the Ford 7000 that uses the same 256 cu. in. engine.

The manual adds that in areas where prolonged periods of extreme temperature are encountered, local lubricant practices are acceptable: Low Ash SAE 5W (CC) in extreme cold, or Low Ash SAE 40 (CD) or SAE 50 (CD) in extreme heat.

Fuel sulfur note, as printed: with a sulfur content below 1.0%, an API CC oil may be used instead of CD, but the oil and filter change interval must be reduced to 150 hours on the 6700 or 50 hours on the 7700. Between 1.0% and 1.3% sulfur a CD oil must be used (except at 10°F and below), with the same reduced intervals. Fuel with a sulfur content above 1.3% is not recommended.4

Notes:
1 The lower compression ratio on the 7700 is the clearest indication in this specification section that the two engines are differently configured, though the manual does not say so in as many words. The Ford 7000, which uses the same 256 cu. in. engine, is given as 16.5:1.
2 Reproduced with one correction. The manual prints the psi row as “7 (.13 with air conditioners)”, which is not a pressure; the bar row directly beneath it reads “.5 (.9 with air conditioners)”. 13 psi is 0.9 bar, so the decimal point in “.13” is a stray mark and the figure is 13 psi.
3 Reproduced as printed. The 6700 column gives “1-1/14”, which is not a valid fraction. The 7700 column gives “1-1/4”. Neither is consistent with the metric range of 25 to 32 mm printed alongside both, which corresponds to 1 in. to 1-1/4 in., so this specification appears to be a range in the original with the lower bound lost.
4 Note the difference between models. The 6700 gets 150 hours where the 7700 gets 50, for the same fuel condition and the same oil classification. This is as printed and is consistent with the 7700 being the harder-worked engine.
5 Reproduced as printed. 147 in. is about 3734 mm, not 3680; 3680 mm is about 144.9 in. The turning diameter without brakes on the line above converts correctly, so one of these two figures is out.
6 The 7700 axle weights with a Ford cab do not sum to the printed total. Every other column in this table does. Taking the printed figures: the 6700 with cab gives 2580 + 5380 = 7960 on the long wheelbase and 2730 + 5230 = 7960 on the short, both matching its printed total of 7960 exactly. Without a cab, all four of the 6700 and 7700 rows sum correctly too. But the 7700 with a cab gives 2600 + 4900 = 7500 on the long wheelbase and 2560 + 5420 = 7980 on the short, against a printed total of 8180.
The metric column resolves half of it. The short-wheelbase front axle is printed as 2560 lbs. and 1250 kg, and those two do not agree: 1250 kg is 2756 lbs. Using 2756 instead, 2756 + 5420 = 8176, which matches the printed total of 8180 to within rounding. The imperial figure is the wrong one and the metric preserves the correct value. It is also implausible on its face that the heavier 7700 would carry 170 lbs. less on its front axle than the 6700.
The long-wheelbase rear axle is a separate problem: 4900 lbs. and 2220 kg agree with each other, but subtracting the front axle from the total gives 8180 − 2600 = 5580 lbs. Comparing against the same tractor without a cab, where the rear axle carries 4600 lbs., a cab adds roughly 980 lbs. to the rear, which again points to about 5580. The printed 4900 would mean the cab added only 300 lbs. to the rear while adding 1080 lbs. overall.
Both figures are reproduced above exactly as the manual prints them. If you are setting ballast or checking axle loading on a 7700 with a cab, weigh the tractor.
